Veronika Puchkova

I come from: Saint-Petersburg, Russia

What I studied before MA SES: linguistics and cross-cultural communication, Saint-Petersburg State Electrotechnical University

Why I study in the MA SES programme: To my mind, this programme is unique as it is among the few in Russia, that has a versatile approach to the contemporary European society, studying it from political, social, economic and cultural perspectives and examining it from the point of view of the problems European states face. Besides, it provides instruction in English and offers classes of German. Speaking German seems to me important nowadays as Germany plays one of the leading roles in the international affairs. Furthemore, the Russian-German double degree and the fact that the whole process of studying is up to the European standard gives an incentive to continue one's studies or research abroad. What I really like is that during classes students are encouraged to develop skills of working with new information, presenting it, expressing their opinions, supporting or critiquing those of other students, on the whole, we learn how to study and work in multicultural settings. I hope that all this, together with the practical skills and knowledge gained through an internship, would help us enhance our career opportunities and become well-rounded people in general.
